Believe it or not, 2024 is right around the corner. With a new year comes new colors of the year chosen by your favorite paint manufacturers. These colors resonate with consumers and reflect the world in which we live.

Blue hues and darker shades are predicted to be popular next year, and they’re perfect for your next kitchen or bathroom remodel.

Blue Hues

Benjamin Moore, Valspar, and Sherwin-Williams chose a blue shade as their 2024 Color of the Year. Benjamin Moore chose a darker blue, called Blue Nova, a mix of blue and violet. Valspar chose Renew Blue, a blue, aqua, and green combination. And Sherwin-Williams chose a more relaxed, subdued blue, called Upward.

One option is to make your kitchen cabinets and cupboards stand out by painting them in Blue Nova. As part of that, an idea is to pair them with beige tones elsewhere in your kitchen.

Because Renew Blue and Upward are meant to be instill a restful, peaceful, and relaxing mood, they are perfect colors for the bathroom. Paint the walls in the lighter blue shades or install blue tiles. If you want to go for a classic look, combine the light blue walls with vintage bathroom fixtures and a checkerboard floor.

Darker Shades

Behr and Dutch Boy’s research show darker shades are becoming more commonplace and designed their 2024 Color of the Year picks around those numbers. Behr’s pick is Cracked Pepper, a soft black, while Dutch Boy chose Ironside, a deep olive.

Dark hues are best used in moderation, at least at first.

Try painting just your vanity in the bathroom in Cracked Pepper – the color is supposed to exude confidence – or pair black cabinets with a white island in the kitchen. If you’re really daring, you could try an all-Ironside kitchen and paint the walls, ceiling, and cabinets in deep olive.

The color soothes and reassures.

Need something lighter?

If you’re afraid of the dark, Glidden & PPG, as well as Sherwin-Williams’ HGTV Color of the Year have you covered.

Glidden & PPG chose Limitless, a honey, beige color perfect for a warm, cozy cabinet feel in your kitchen or for the bottom half of the wall with wallpaper on top in the bathroom.

Sherwin Williams’ HGTV pick is Permission, an orange, tangerine, earthy color. You can use it as an accent color in your bathroom, or even as the main color of the walls in your kitchen, as the color orange drives your appetite.
